Fredrik Thordendal -- Sol Niger Within

Solo album from Meshuggah's guitarist that is, in my opinion, better than anything Meshuggah has done. I don't always enjoy music when you can practically hear the musicians counting due to the weird time changes and whatnot, but this one succeeds despite the mathiness. I really dig the vocals, too. Maybe Meshuggah should let him sing instead of the other guy, who sounds like a meathead.

brilliant album - came out in 3 versions - all slightly different from one another - that's why the last official pressing is called sol niger within 3.3 more Hammond organs and saxophones and longer tracks on the previous pressings - anyone know where i can find 2.0?

Great listen. I was shocked to hear even more metaphysical bullshit rambling than your average Meshuggah album, which is surprising because I'm pretty sure that the drummer writes all of those lyrics. Maybe Mr Thodendal was raising the ante. I was also happy to hear that the final track was later ripped off to provide the opening riff from "I", which contrary to your incorrect opinion is the best thing this guy has ever played on.
